There are strange incidents at the Tokyo Bay. Shortly thereafter, a video goes viral, on which an inexplicable sea monster is seen. While the government calls for calm, the now mutated monster reaches the land and leaves a trail of devastation. With the support of the US agent Kayoko Ann Patterson, the government, authorities and scientists try to find a way to stop the monster baptized as Godzilla. Yet normal weapons have no effect.
With the reboot ‘Shin Godzilla’ the popular franchise returns to its roots. Directors Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi became internationally known with ‘Neon Genesis Evangelion’, whose fans will also get with ‘Shin Godzilla’ their money’s worth. In the first (original) Godzilla film since 2014, the makers reflect the great catastrophe of Tohoku in March 2011 and focus not only on the hunt for Godzilla, but also on how the disaster management forms and take decisions. Multi awarded ‘Shin Godzilla’ is the most successful Japanese live action film of 2016.
