An American bomber crashes near the mountain village Ryūjin. Some crew members are captured but are killed in the last days of the war. The villagers stage a funeral ceremony and later even erect even a memorial for them although bomber pilots of the enemy were hardly considered to be humans at the time. The film is an expedition into the past, interviewing contemporary witnesses and descendants.
